GEORGE POL KOUKOURAKIS

George studied Architecture in the United States, at Mississippi State University, where he was awarded upon graduation with the 1st place medal for "Design Excellence" (ΤΣΔ award). He worked in the United States at CBD Architects in New Orleans, LA and in Chicago, IL as the Creative Director and Interior Designer.  After moving back to Greece, he worked for 4 years at the restoration of the Athens Hilton he also served as the head Supervising Architect for the owner of Costa Navarino luxury resorts in Messinia, Peloponnese (a project based on the principles of bioclimatic architecture).

George worked closely with well-known design firms; A.N. Tombazis Architects, MKV Designs, and the worlwide known landscape architect Jean Mus.

George is an avid horticulturist and enjoys landscaping urban gardens as well as countryside Mediterranean gardens on the greek island of Nisyros. He has completed several projects as the founder of Atelier Dodeca Design Studio on the island of Nisyros.

We are a newly established architectural firm based on the Aegean island of Nisyros.  Our firm is committed to design excellence, originality and integrity that derive from our deep knowledge and understanding of the Greek vernacular architecture. Through our work we try to preserve Greece’s unique cultural inheritance, by respecting the local architecture and the historic knowledge of the passive building systems, practiced by the locals for centuries, while borrowing them and tailoring them to meet today’s standards of low energy and bioclimatic design. We are also interested in historic preservation in the most sustainable way, by prescribing the top of today’s efficient green materials.
